Are you a high achiever with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)?

High achievers set big goals and have the discipline and determination to reach those goals. It’s a mix of ambition and grit. They keep going through challenges because they have a clear vision with an unwavering drive to make that vision a reality.

Does that sound like you (at least in your follicular phase)?

If you are a high achiever with PMDD, keep reading to explore why you don't have to wait for "perfect" or symptom-free cycles to be YOU and pursue your goals or vision.

Are you a high achiever with PMDD?

If you are a high achiever with PMDD, it might feel like a CLASH between your high achiever nature and the reality of your PMDD symptoms.

Perhaps it looks like this:
  • You calculate how many days of productivity you lose to PMDD symptoms each month while internalizing the guilt and shame that you can't keep up.
  • You see the first drop of blood of your period and quickly start planning all of the things you need to do before the next...

Is there a "cure" for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)?

You may have stumbled across this article by googling, "Is there a cure for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)?"  I'm guessing the search results felt both over- and under-whelming.

Overwhelming due to the amount of conflicting information available. For example, you're probably seeing mixed information in forums about what works and what doesn't.  One peson will post what worked miracles for them and then countless people will comment that they tried it and it did NOTHING.  From reading those comments, perhaps you're realizing that there isn't a single treatment that works for everyone with PMDD. If only it were that simple, right?

Underwhelming because all you're finding are stories of suffering instead of the stories of hope that you were looking for when you started your Google deep dive.  Instead of feeling more hopeful, you're left wondering, "Do I just have to accept my fate?"  Yet perhaps, there's something in you that tells you to keep...

Connecting the Dots: Histamine, PMDD, and Finding Lasting Relief through Functional Nutrition

If you’ve been exploring PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) for a while, you’ve probably seen conversations about histamine intolerance being a potential root cause of PMDD or PME (Premenstrual Exacerbation). Understanding the connection between histamine and PMDD can help you make sense of the core issues driving your symptoms. From there, you can arrive at a targeted plan for relief.

Of course, when you first learn about this connection, it can seem daunting. And because PMDD is such a complex condition, it’s natural to assume it requires a complex solution.

Yet I know firsthand it’s possible to get lasting relief from PMDD. In my case, I went from debilitating symptoms to welcoming my cycle each month.

But I didn’t find relief through one-size-fits-all solutions or super restrictive diets. Using a comprehensive functional medicine approach, I got clear on the unique root causes of my symptoms and restored balance in my body.

Now my...

How to Navigate Relationships with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

[Trigger Warning: Article makes mention of mental health crises and suicidal ideation.]

Relationships are hard. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) makes them harder.

You have the best intentions to do it differently this cycle yet somehow, every cycle, you feel UNHINGED. No matter how hard you try, you unleash the luteal beast every damn month.

Or perhaps it's the swirling existential questions like:
  • Is this person right for me?
  • Do I even deserve them?
  • Should we get divorced?

If PMDD is creating pain and turmoil in your partnership, read on for how to communicate effectively all month long so you feel more understood and your partner feels less attacked.

Why does PMDD create conflict in relationships, especially with my partner?

With PMDD, it's common to feel like one person the first half of your cycle and a completely different person the second half.

Let's start by connecting the dots between what's...

Celebrating 3 Years Creating Waves in the PMDD Community

Opening the Doors to a Global Coaching Practice for Mental and Menstrual Health

In August, our team celebrated 3 years since opening our doors.

We set out with a lofty mission:

To help thousands of menstruators free themselves from the debilitating mood and menstrual symptoms so that that they can live out their purpose.

Correction: We actually didn't pause to celebrate back in August. We kept on forging ahead... to keep evolving, researching, and refining our methods to continue helping more people... better and faster.  So now, in the New Year, we're taking a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate how far we've come and where we're going next.

How the PMDD Revealed Program Came to Be

3 years ago, I had this crazy idea that I could help people suffering from debilitating mood and menstrual symptoms with a functional medicine and nutrition approach.

At the time, there were very few people in the world doing this. I honestly had the thought, "Maybe...

PMDD & HSP: Is there a connection between Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and Being a Highly Sensitive Person?

Do you ever feel too sensitive for the world?

Yep, me too. Let’s talk about it.

I have a history of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and work with people with PMDD every day, all day. I observe time and time again that folks with PMDD are often highly sensitive and highly empathetic. Sometimes they’re also very intuitive and creative.

Some identify as HSPs (highly sensitive person), neurodivergent, or have a diagnosis of ADHD or ASD.

And it’s not just observation on my part. There’s been a lot of buzz on the topic of PMDD, autism, neurodivergence, ADHD, and sensory processing. In my small corner of the Internet, it feels like everyone is talking about this article, which states that PMDD disproportionately affects people with ADHD and autism, at a rate of 46% and 92% respectively.

The International Association of Premenstrual Disorders put out this statement commenting on the article as well. You can read it here. The consensus? As...

PMDD Holiday Survival Guide (or any event during your luteal phase)

If you have PMDD, you're probably used to looking ahead at your calendar to see where an event or obligation falls within your cycle.

When do upcoming events fall within your menstrual cycle? You may have already looked, or perhaps you're opening up your cycle app right now thinking, "Oh sh*t...". This may be especially true if you experience symptoms during your luteal phase (the second half of your cycle between ovulation and your bleed).

Fear not, my dear friend! You're not alone in that. With a plan and some key strategies, it is possible to not only survive but actually enjoy whatever is coming up on your calendar.

If you're feeling at all nervous about how you'll "handle" an upcoming event or obligation, follow these steps to create more safety in your body, and ultimately, within your cycle.

Plan & Cope ahead.

Whenever you're anticipating a stressful situation or recognizing that an event is occurring during a time of your cycle...

Podcast Episode: Mindfulness for PMDD ~ All About Mindful Nutrition with Mandy Rother

PMDD & Emotional versus Mindful Eating

Mandy Rother joins Diane de Jesus on the Mindfulness for PMDD podcast.

Before we dive into this episode, we have to share a little bit about how Diane and Mandy know each other. Diane was a client of Mandy's inside the PMDD Revealed program.  After achieving immense relief during their work together, she has since gone on to start her own podcst to support others with PMDD.

We call that the "Ripple Effect". When our clients are no longer losing days of their life every month suffering from PMDD, they can live out their purpose and make an impact on the world by giving back to their communities.

That's exactly what Diane did when she launched her podcast.  And she even returned to the PMDD Revealed program as a guest mindfulness teacher to give back to her peers.

Here's a snapshot of Diane's story:

"I have experienced a 98% decrease in symptoms after 3 months of working together. Mandy provided...

Do I really need a multivitamin for PMDD?

pmdd supplements Jun 12, 2023

When I say the word "supplement", what comes to mind?

  • Did it conjure up images of life-saving little capsules that you can't live without?
  • Or did you start picturing the pile of bottles that you've tossed aside because they didn't make a difference? ‍

If you raised your hand at the latter, you're not alone.

Many of my clients come to me with a laundry list of all the supplements that they're taking or that they've tried before. Often times, if one thing doesn't work, they'll add another. Then another. Then another.

Before they know it, they're taking anywhere from five to twenty supplements and still SUFFERING.

If this is you, it's not your fault.

The supplement industry is confusing with conflicting information at every corner.

I'm a registered dietitian but my undergraduate education had ZERO hours of training on supplements. ZERO. Same goes for doctors too, by the way. Wild, right?

That's why I've invested...
